Visitors no longer allowed to apply for work permits from within Canada

As of August 28, Canada has changed its immigration policy, affecting temporary residents on visitor visas. These individuals are no longer allowed to apply for a work permit from within Canada.

This policy was initially introduced in August 2020 to support visitors who were stranded in Canada due to COVID-19-related border closures. It allowed them to apply for a work permit without leaving the country. Additionally, those who had held a work permit within the previous 12 months and had switched their immigration status to "visitor" were permitted to work legally in Canada while awaiting a decision on their new work permit application.

This update marks a significant change for temporary residents in Canada, impacting those who wish to transition from a visitor visa to a work permit.
